The school of practical nursing is a
postsecondary course that provices skills necessary for licensed
practical nurshing. It teaches the fundamentals of patient care as well
as professional development. Training in infection control.
medica-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, oncology nursing, geriatric
nursing, and mental health nurshing is provicded. This program prepares
students to take the Licensed Practical Nursing Examination for
licensure through the West Virginia State Board of Examiners.
The program conforms with the wirtten requirements of the State
Department of Education, Division of Technical and Adult Education
Services, and the polocies of the State Board of Examiners for Licensed
- The curriculum is practice oriented. Planned learning experiences
are designed to prepare the prictical nurse in assisting the primary
health care agent and the professional nurse in assessment, planning,
implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The major focus is on
implementation. The curriculum is divided into units of study, Units

- Adults interested in the School of Practical Nursing program must
make application throught the School of Prictical Nursing Program
Coordinator. These applicants must pass an entrance exam and be
interviewed by the School of Prictical Nursing faculty and/or their
designated representatives prior to being considered for admission.
- School of Practical Nursing applicants MUST hold a high school diploma or TASC/GED upon submission of application
- Classroom and clinical training is provided from April to March
of each year in order to prepare students to take the WV State Board
Exam for Licensed Prictical Nursing.
- The cost of the LPN Program is approximately $7000 which includes
uniforms, books, $4224 for tuition, and fees. A $250 non-refundable
seating fee is required upon acceptance into the program. Financial aid
is available to qualified students. Federal student loans are not available.
