    The School of Practical Nursing provides: Basic skills necessary for all nursing careers, basic knowledge to be a successful nurse, training in disease prevention and control, and current trends in technology. The school of Practical Nursing also:
  • Enrolls twenty students each year
  • Provides clinical and classroom training from March to March to prepare students to take the WV State Board Exam for Licensed Practical Nursing.

Application Process:
  • Complete the FIT School of Practical Nursing Application (APPLICATION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE)
  • Pass the scheduled Pre-entrance Exam. There is a non-refundable fee for this exam.
  • Provide two references
  • Provide a copy of your high school diploma or GED
  • Provide an official grade transcript
  • Complete an interview
  • A non-refundable seating fee of $250 is required upon acceptance into the program. This fee will later be applied toward tuition costs upon acceptance and enrollment into the LPN Program.


Admission Requirements:

  • Complete a Dental/Physical Exam
  • Submit to background screening
  • Pass a Drug Screening Test
  • Provide a copy of a current CPR Card
  • Present Immunization Records
  • Attend Orientation Day

    It is strongly recommended that you take a Medical Terminology Class and Basic Math for Medical course prior to enrolling in the LPN Program if either of these areas are unfamiliar to you. These classes are frequently offered as evening courses here at FIT. Applicants with English as a second language are required to pass the TOEFL Test with a score of 500.     The cost of tuition for the LPN Program is $5,294 which does not include uniforms, books, etc. Refunds for withdrawal from the program are handled through the Financial Aid Office at the Fayette Institute of Technology.

Financial Aid
    Financial aid is available to qualifying adult students in the form of Federal Pell Grants, Workforce Investment Act, WV Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans Affairs, Trade Readjustment Allowance, and UMWA Career Center. Students may apply for a career loan through Wells Fargo at


FIT does not process Federal Student Loans of any type.


  • The LPN Program provides more than 1300 clock hours of training. Classes are Monday through Friday with clinical schedules varying based upon the needs to meet instructional goals.
  • Clinical times may vary to incorporate an entire eight hour shift.
  • The Fayette County School Calendar is followed with the exception of required attendance in the summer months.
  • Exemplary attendance is required for completion of this course.

The WV State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nursing shall have the right, in accordance with rules and regulations promulgated under the provisions of Article Three, Chapter Twenty-Nine-A of their code, to refuse to admit an applicant for the licensure examination for reasons stated therein.
