HVAC- Adult Program

HVAC is a one-year course offering students the skills, knowledge, and hands-on competencies necessary to prepare them for a career as an HVAC technician. Students will be involved in various projects including but not limited to, use of HVAC tools and testing equipment, construction of metal duckboard and ductwork, cost estimates and more. This course is taught from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for adult students. Students must be physically able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds, climb a ladder, and perform sustained overhead work.

Instructor Charles Shumaker

Mr. Shuemaker has over twenty years experience in the HVAC industry. Part of that time was with Charlies Appliance and Heating Service, a business he co-owned with his father.

He began teaching at Nicholas County five years ago, and this is second year at FIT. Mr. Shuemaker always wanted to be a teacher but not in a regular classroom setting. He loves teaching the HVAC CTE program. His students have done well in state competitions and placed frequently.

His program is designed to teach the basics: from installing ductwork and HVAC equipment to learning how to service and repair HVAC equipment. They also work with local HVAC companies and have several students employed with them. His program instructs not only high school students, but adults as well.

He is a lifelong resident of Fayette County and graduated from Fayetteville High School and FIT.
